If school systems are analysed from a comparative perspective, the Chilean, Swedish and English cases stand out because of their accelerated and high degree of privatisation. However, even though research on the expansion of subsidised private education is well developed, the owners or managers of these schools have been poorly studied. For this reason, I would like to raise the voices of teachers who own private schools, expose their ideas and their professional identities (as teachers as owners of schools).
I am a doctoral researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. My thesis is a reconstruction of the process of privatisation of the Chilean school system from the perspective of the teachers who founded schools between 1980 and 2005. I am interested in analyzing their professional trajectories and knowing what motivated them to found schools.
